The "universal priesthood of believers" is a fond fancy which goes well with the other fundamental tenets of Protestantism. They also believe in Apostolic Succession, and in many cases, could trace it specifically, by name. During his conversion to Protestantism, Calvin met different people to discuss the idea of reform, such as Jacques Lefèvre d'étaples. Christ is said to be a prophet in that he teaches perfect doctrine, a priest in that he intercedes to the Father on believers' behalf and offered himself as a sacrifice for sin, and a king in that he rules the church and fights on believers' behalf. In Catholicism, Priests are selected members of the faith who must go through 8+ years of schooling and dedicate their lives solely to God and His Church. Honest dialogue must start with correct representation of what each believes. (“You may labour to be rich for God, though not for the flesh and sin” said Calvinist Richard Baxter); Absolute control of self (emotions and body) and aversion to spontaneous enjoyment; Many Calvinist writers had the same contempt for wealth that the Catholic ascetics did, but when you looked more closely at their writings, Weber noted, their contempt was for the enjoyment of wealth and the physical temptations that came with it.
